Olusegun Mimiko defects to APC Tinubu reforms became evident during a reception ceremony held in Ondo City, where he was welcomed into the ruling party by Ondo State APC Chairman, Kolawole Babatunde, alongside the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, and other party leaders.
Mimiko said his move was influenced by his support for ongoing efforts by the Tinubu-led administration to promote national peace, economic progress and sustainable development across the country.
He acknowledged that while Nigeria still faces significant challenges, the direction of current economic and governance reforms played a major role in his political realignment.
“There are a lot of good things being done by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government, and though much more will still have to be done, I am coming in to lend my support,” he said.
The former governor also referenced discussions around decentralised policing, noting that the proposal aligns with his long-standing advocacy for state-controlled policing systems.
Ondo State APC Chairman, Kolawole Babatunde, described Mimiko’s defection as a “homecoming,” adding that it reflects the growing acceptance and strength of the party in the state.
