Okpebholo Urges Edo Residents to Back Tinubu in 2027

Okpebholo backs Tinubu ahead of 2027, urging Edo residents to support the President while highlighting roads, healthcare and planned power projects.

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has urged residents to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration ahead of the 2027 general elections, arguing that federal economic reforms and cooperation between both governments are helping drive development in the state.

Okpebholo made the appeal on Wednesday during a visit to the palace of the Ojuromi of Uromi, HRH Zaiki Anselm Aidenojie II, in Esan North-East Local Government Area. Members of the All Progressives Congress accompanied the governor.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Patrick Ebojel, the governor highlighted road construction, improvements to primary healthcare centres, school projects and regular salary payments as priorities of his administration.

He acknowledged that some projects would take time to deliver visible results, particularly those involving major construction work.

“Most of the work I am undertaking cannot manifest in one day. It takes time because it involves construction,” Okpebholo said.

He added that several roads had been completed, while construction was ongoing on other routes across the state.

According to him, the projects are expected to improve transportation and stimulate economic activities in Edo.

The governor also outlined plans to address the state’s electricity challenges, saying a 100-megawatt power plant was expected to begin operations in Edo South, while another project was expected to contribute an additional 16 megawatts to the state’s power supply.

“These projects are part of our efforts to address the power problem in the state,” he said.

Okpebholo credited support from the Federal Government for progress on his administration’s projects and urged residents not to place Edo in opposition to Tinubu’s government.

“The man driving that success is Mr. President. That is why I am here to tell you that I do not want Edo to be in opposition to this government because of the progress we are already making,” the governor said.

His appeal places state development projects at the centre of his argument for continued political cooperation with the President ahead of the 2027 election.

Earlier, Aidenojie, speaking on behalf of the Esan Enigies, commended the governor for his efforts to accelerate development across Edo State.

The traditional ruler prayed for divine guidance and wisdom for Okpebholo and expressed confidence that he would complete the anticipated eight-year tenure of his administration.

Tinubu’s economic reforms, including changes intended to reshape public revenue and economic management, remain a major issue in national political debate.

While the Federal Government and its supporters point to intended long-term benefits, households and businesses continue to assess the impact of economic changes on their living costs and operations.

Okpebholo’s appeal signals his intention to make federal-state cooperation and infrastructure development key arguments for supporting Tinubu in 2027.

However, the delivery and impact of the projects cited by the governor will be important factors in assessing the administration’s claims of progress.
