South-West Zonal Commander Adekunle Ajibade issued the warning on Monday while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in Ota.
Ajibade emphasised that life is irreplaceable and urged drivers to rest adequately, noting that driving while sleepy significantly increases the risk of accidents.
He advised, “Motorists who are travelling should look for a safer place to rest whenever they are tired. They should also ensure that all vehicle components, especially the brake system, are functioning well, and reduce their speed because speed kills.”
The TRACE commander also cautioned against drunk driving, reminding motorists to obey all traffic rules and cooperate with TRACE personnel and other traffic agencies to ensure smooth traffic flow during the yuletide period.

The admonition follows a historically high rate of road accidents in Nigeria during the festive season, attributed to increased vehicular movement, fatigue, speeding, and reckless driving, which often lead to crashes and fatalities.
