Abeokuta, the state capital, continues to serve as the administrative and cultural heart of the state, which takes its name from the Ogun River.

Historically home to the Egba, Ijebu, Remo, Yewa, Awori, and Egbado peoples, Ogun State has maintained a rich Yoruba cultural identity.

Landmarks such as Olumo Rock stand as enduring symbols of protection, unity, and resilience.

The state’s location bordering Lagos State and the Republic of Benin has cemented its role as a critical corridor for trade, migration, and regional integration.

Cultural vibrancy remains central to Ogun’s identity.

Festivals such as the Ojude Oba in Ijebu-Ode attract visitors from across Nigeria and the diaspora, promoting cultural tourism and reinforcing social cohesion.

The state’s name, shared with the Yoruba deity Ogun, aligns with its industrial and creative spirit.

Religious tolerance has been a hallmark of Ogun State, where Christians, Muslims, and adherents of traditional beliefs coexist peacefully.

This social harmony has supported political stability and created an enabling environment for investment and development.

Education has long been a priority.
