Obi Amaechi warn Tinubu democracy remarks were made during the #OccupyINEC demonstration held at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission, where political leaders and supporters gathered to express concerns over the direction of governance and electoral independence.

Peter Obi, a former presidential candidate, said Nigerians must retain the freedom to choose their leaders through credible democratic processes.

He stressed that the protest was peaceful and aimed at preventing any drift towards a one-party system, which he warned could undermine democratic institutions.

Peter Obi called on those in government to prioritise the protection of democracy, noting that it remains essential for national stability and future generations.

He emphasised that citizens’ participation in free and fair elections is a cornerstone of governance that must not be compromised.

Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi also addressed journalists on the sidelines of the protest, criticising aspects of the current administration’s policies.

He argued that economic hardship and perceived policy decisions have contributed to public dissatisfaction across the country.

Rotimi Amaechi further expressed confidence that the ruling party could face electoral defeat in future elections, suggesting that voter sentiment may shift in response to current governance challenges.
