Oyo lawmakers endorse Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin for 2027 governorship, pledging support for his succession bid after Seyi Makinde’s tenure
Members of the Oyo State House of Assembly on Wednesday, 2026, unanimously endorsed the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, as their preferred candidate to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde in the 2027 governorship election, in a significant political development within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The endorsement was made during plenary at the State House of Assembly, where lawmakers openly declared their support for the Speaker’s prospective governorship ambition.
The motion backing Ogundoyin was moved by Deputy Speaker Muhammad Fadeyi, who represents Ona Ara State Constituency, and seconded by other members of the House in a coordinated show of confidence in the Speaker’s leadership.
Fadeyi described Ogundoyin as a stabilising force within the legislature, stating that he possesses the competence and experience required to lead Oyo State after Governor Seyi Makinde’s tenure.
Other lawmakers echoed similar sentiments, praising the Speaker’s performance and describing him as a leader who has consistently demonstrated capacity beyond expectations in legislative administration.
The Ogundoyin 2027 Governorship Endorsement marks an early alignment within the state’s political structure, as stakeholders begin positioning ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Majority Leader Sanjo Adedoyin also supported the move, noting that the Speaker has shown strong leadership qualities and readiness for higher responsibility within the state’s political hierarchy.

The lawmakers collectively pledged to mobilise support across Oyo State to ensure Ogundoyin’s emergence as the next governor, further strengthening his growing political profile within the PDP.
