NNPP Faction to Appeal Court Ruling on Agbo Major

NNPP faction vows to appeal FCT High Court ruling affirming Agbo Major as national chairman, citing procedural irregularities and threat to democracy

A faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has announced plans to appeal the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court ruling that affirmed Dr. Agbo Major as the party’s legitimate national chairman.

Factional NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, described the judgment as a “miscarriage of justice” and “an assault on democracy,” alleging that the court overstepped its jurisdiction by ruling on a matter already before the Abia State High Court and the Court of Appeal in Owerri.

Johnson criticised the court for ignoring procedural irregularities, claiming that the party was never properly served with the court processes, a move he said undermines the principle of fair hearing and procedural integrity.

“This act flies in the face of established legal hierarchy and the doctrine of stare decisis. A group of expelled members, acting on behalf of Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, approached the FCT High Court seeking a judicial review of a matter already under consideration by the appellate court,” he said.

The NNPP faction warned that the ruling could erode public and international confidence in Nigeria’s judiciary ahead of the 2027 elections.

Johnson reassured party members that the appeal process would correct the judgment and preserve democratic integrity.

“This is merely a temporary detour orchestrated by those who fear the people’s will. We are confident that the appellate court will correct this anomaly and uphold the rule of law.

The attempt to hijack this party will fail; Nigeria’s democracy is bigger than the desperation of a few,” he added.
