Labour Party Demands Arrest of Julius Abure Faction

Labour Party calls for Julius Abure arrest after faction allegedly attacks Abuja secretariat, seizes sensitive documents and equipment

The National Working Committee of the Labour Party, led by Interim National Chairman Nenadi Usman, has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of former party chairman Julius Abure and members of his faction following a violent takeover of the party’s Abuja secretariat on Monday, 10 February 2026.

Addressing journalists at the party’s national headquarters, the NWC accused Abure and his group of destroying billboards bearing Usman’s image, threatening to kill anyone who attempted to stop them, and removing laptops, financial documents, and other sensitive materials from the premises.

“The supremacy of the constitution and the finality of judicial decisions remain the bedrock of our republic,” the LP stated.

“Nigeria is a constitutional democracy governed by laws, not a chaotic arena of impunity, terrorism, and brigandage as imagined by Mr Julius Abure and others.”

The party said it had formally petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, the Department of State Services, and other security agencies to ensure lawful enforcement of court judgments and provide protection for a peaceful resumption of operations at the secretariat.

The agencies reportedly provided security coverage between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on the day of the incident.

Labour Party officials described the operation by Abure’s faction as “lasting over 30 minutes,” during which critical party assets including laptops, desktops, phones, registration materials, and financial records were seized.

The NWC also highlighted social media posts made by Abure’s associates in the aftermath, which it described as “self-incriminating and indicative of continued defiance of judicial pronouncements.”

The party warned that such actions represent a pattern of impunity and called on security agencies to take decisive action to protect the party’s constitutionally recognised leadership and uphold the rule of law.
