Kwankwaso ADC defection Lagos APC reaction as party calls move overhyped, driven by ambition, and lacking real political impact
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), speaking in Lagos, Nigeria, on Tuesday, dismissed the reported defection of former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the development as politically overhyped and driven by personal ambition.

The Kwankwaso ADC defection Lagos APC reaction came through a statement issued by party spokesperson Seye Oladejo, who argued that the move does not represent a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape.
The party said closer examination of the defection suggests it is motivated more by individual political interests than by national development or ideological alignment.
According to the Lagos APC, Kwankwaso’s political decisions have long been linked to ambitions for top executive office, which it claims explains his latest party switch.
The statement further questioned the strength of the Kwankwasiyya political movement, alleging that it has weakened following the exit of key stakeholders in Kano State.
It argued that true political relevance is measured by sustained alliances, trust-building and delivery of results, rather than past office or name recognition.
The party maintained that Nigerians deserve leadership focused on governance and national progress, rather than what it described as opportunistic political manoeuvring.
It added that the defection should not be interpreted as a major gain for the ADC, but rather as a development that raises questions about the motivations behind ongoing political realignments.

The APC reiterated its commitment to disciplined and principle-based politics, insisting that leadership should be rooted in service to the public rather than personal ambition.
