Kenneth Okonkwo: ADC Will Win 2027 Election

Actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo says ADC will win the 2027 election and replace the Tinubu government, despite poor by-election performance

Nollywood veteran and political figure, Kenneth Okonkwo, has boldly declared that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will win the 2027 general elections and take over governance from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Okonkwo made the statement on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise programme, where he addressed the party’s electoral prospects and its growing national structure.

“We are going to form the next government in Nigeria and send Tinubu to Bourdillon,” Okonkwo asserted confidently.

His remarks come in the wake of criticisms over the ADC’s poor performance in the August 16 by-elections, where the party failed to win any of the 16 contested constituencies.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) clinched 12 of the available seats across nine states.

When asked whether the party stood a realistic chance in 2027, Okonkwo said:

“We stand a chance in every election in Nigeria.”

However, he acknowledged that recent electoral outcomes may not reflect the party’s true strength due to internal transitions.

“I wouldn’t say the same thing for any election for which the primaries were conducted before the coming into existence of David Bach’s leadership.

Because we are not part of the people who decided that. That’s why I’m saying the true test of ADC will be in 2027.”

Okonkwo also responded to concerns about the party’s grassroots structure, asserting that the ADC is now present in all 36 states of the federation.

He further confirmed that former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, is the leading figure for the party in Rivers State:

“In Rivers, it’s obvious. Rotimi Amaechi is the party head,” he stated.

The ADC has recently restructured under the leadership of David Bach (formerly David Mark).
Okonkwo joined ADC in 2023 after leaving the Labour Party, citing differences in ideology and leadership direction.

The party says it should not be judged solely by the outcomes of recent by-elections, insisting it is undergoing a strategic repositioning ahead of 2027.
