Iyabo Obasanjo had, in a letter dated 31 May 2026, accused the party of alleged disrespect, intimidation of supporters, and other grievances that informed her decision to quit the APC.

Reacting to the development, the APC Publicity Secretary, Comrade Femi Nuberu, said the party remains committed to democratic principles and freedom of association, stressing that members are free to make personal political choices.

The Ogun APC stated that Obasanjo was welcomed into the party shortly before the governorship primary election and was given the same rights and privileges as other aspirants.

It added that the party ensured a level playing field throughout the process, which eventually produced a consensus candidate supported by stakeholders.

According to the party, the arrangement was openly acknowledged by participants, including Senator Obasanjo, who pledged to support party unity at the time.

The APC described several claims in her resignation letter as inconsistent with what transpired during her participation in the internal process, insisting there was no intimidation or exclusion.

It further suggested that her brief stay in the party raised questions about the depth of her commitment to its long-term political objectives.

The party noted that other aspirants who did not secure tickets remained loyal and continued to support the party’s broader agenda.

According to the APC, political contests naturally produce winners and losers, but true party members are expected to remain committed regardless of outcomes.
