Chigozie Ekeogu emerged as the Interim Chairman alongside other executive members tasked with coordinating membership mobilisation, strengthening party structures and preparing the party for upcoming electoral contests across the state.

The announcement was made during a party gathering addressed by the National Youth Leader of the SDP and immediate past Imo State Chairman, Mr Ifeanyi Henry Eluwa, who said the restructuring was designed to enhance party unity and improve organisational strength across all 27 local government areas of the state.

Eluwa explained that the interim leadership would guide the party towards a formal congress while ensuring effective participation in future elections.

According to him, the SDP remains committed to its founding principles of social justice and good governance, which he said continue to define its political ideology and appeal.

He referenced the legacy of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, stating that the party’s values are rooted in democratic ideals that have historically shaped its political direction in Nigeria.

Eluwa also dismissed reports suggesting a merger between the SDP and another political platform, clarifying that while coalition discussions may occur in the future, no formal merger currently exists.

The outgoing chairman pledged continued support for the new leadership, expressing confidence that the interim executive would strengthen party structures at ward, local government and state levels.
