Senator Neda Imasuen defects to APC amid Labour Party crisis

Senator Neda Imasuen of Edo South has defected from the Labour Party to the APC, citing internal party crisis. He pledges continued focus on youth empowerment and rural development

Senator Neda Imasuen, who represents Edo South in the National Assembly, has officially announced his defection from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), attributing his decision to ongoing internal turmoil within his former party.

Imasuen, who chairs the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, made the declaration during a press briefing in Benin City.

He confirmed that he will formally join the ruling APC on 12 June, in an event marking his second anniversary in office.

“My defection is strategic, not opportunistic,” Imasuen stated. “As chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics and Public Petitions, over 20 petitions from across the country have been resolved, impacting countless lives.”

Imasuen cited significant achievements during his tenure, including the sponsorship of the bill for the establishment of the Federal College of Education in Abudu.

He also highlighted various constituency projects, vocational training schemes, agricultural support programmes, scholarships, and rural health initiatives aimed particularly at traditional birth attendants.

He emphasised that his agricultural support efforts have led to increased productivity in rubber, cocoa, and cashew farming across Edo South.

“There are testimonies from farmers whose yields have improved significantly,” he said.

Calling for stronger cooperation from local government authorities, Imasuen pledged to maintain his focus on youth empowerment, rural development, and alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s policy direction.
