Ogun Monarch Urges Respect for Isiaka Amid 2027 Gubernatorial Race

Ogun monarch Oba Akintunde Akinyemi urges respect for Gboyega Nasir Isiaka and unity among political leaders ahead of 2027 governorship election

The Eselu of Iselu Kingdom, Oba Akintunde Akinyemi, has called on politicians and supporters in Ogun West to desist from mocking and embarrassing House of Representatives member Gboyega Nasir Isiaka over his renewed ambition to contest the 2027 gubernatorial election.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday, Oba Akinyemi emphasised that respectful discourse is essential for unity among political stakeholders in the state.

He argued that politicians should commend, rather than deride, Isiaka’s experience and contributions to the region.

“Hon. Isiaka’s political skills have kept him prominent and relevant in the state’s political landscape. The attacks are needless because he is not the only politician who has lost elections,” Oba Akinyemi said, citing former President Muhammadu Buhari and Abraham Lincoln as examples of leaders who faced repeated defeats before eventual success.

The monarch highlighted Isiaka’s developmental contributions in his constituency, noting improvements in roads, schools, hospitals, and security facilities made possible through his efforts.

He also recalled the 2019 gubernatorial election results, observing that collaboration with other candidates at the time could have significantly altered the outcome.

Oba Akinyemi praised Isiaka for showing respect to APC National Leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2019 elections and urged political figures to recognise the doggedness of all leaders striving to serve Ogun State.

The traditional ruler further called on President Bola Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun, and other senior leaders in the state to intervene, promote unity, and support a collaborative approach among seasoned and new contestants ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Politicians in Ogun West and the state generally should stop mocking Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka as a serial contestant and loser. Other great political titans should also be celebrated for their perseverance,” Oba Akinyemi said.
