Lere Olayinka Calls Fubara Weak Over Assembly Control

Lere Olayinka says Rivers Governor Fubara is politically weak if Minister Wike controls the State Assembly

Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has criticised Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara, describing him as weak if he allows the Minister to control the state House of Assembly.

Olayinka made the remarks while highlighting perceived power imbalances in Rivers politics.

“There are things that I will not come to this station to say. I know this political game very well, I have been around for a very long time,” Olayinka said.

He emphasised that what is reported publicly often differs from behind-the-scenes political manoeuvres.

“On this Rivers issue, what people have come to tell you on television is different from what is happening, and the person of the governor knows that,” he said.

Olayinka argued that if a minister in Abuja can control the political structure in a state, it reflects weakness on the part of the governor.

“If I’m here in Abuja and controlling 27 members of your House of Assembly, you only have three and they are not coming to the house again; that means the entire members are the ones I’m controlling. You should agree and admit that you are weak,” he stated.

He added that Governor Fubara should acknowledge the power dynamic and, if wise, approach Minister Wike respectfully to reconcile.

“If you are a governor and you can’t control any structure in your state, then what kind of governor are you? If another person is controlling your structure, it means the person is stronger than you politically,” Olayinka said.
