Dino Melaye Accuses Tinubu of Plotting to Avoid 2027 Elections

Dino Melaye claims President Tinubu wants to avoid elections in 2027 while criticising APC and reacting to ADC leadership disputes

Former Kogi West senator Dino Melaye has alleged that President Bola Tinubu does not want elections to hold in 2027.

Melaye made the claim during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday morning, where he also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of growing political desperation.

He said the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) had become the only credible challenge to the APC ahead of future elections.

“The APC has become so desperate. They have seen that ADC is the only opposition we have in Nigeria to challenge,” Melaye said.

He also claimed that defections from other political parties into the ADC had unsettled the ruling party.

“They have seen the exodus of people from various political parties into the ADC and they are panicked,” he added.

Melaye questioned why a party with significant political control would show concern about opposition movements.

“It is not about ADC. It is about democracy,” he said.

He further alleged that President Tinubu preferred a non-electoral path to power.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wants to be coronated. He does not want an election. It is a Kabiyesi mentality,” he said.

His comments came shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) removed the names of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its portal as National Chairman and National Secretary of the ADC.

INEC also stated it would not recognise factions within the party or monitor conventions or congresses organised by groups linked to the affected leadership.
