The former senator representing Kogi West made the announcement via his official X account on July 4, 2025.
Melaye, once a PDP governorship candidate, described the party as lacking the “potency and capacity” to rescue Nigeria from its deepening political crisis.
His resignation comes nearly 10 months after being suspended by his PDP ward in Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1 for alleged anti-party activities.
In his resignation letter, Melaye stated,
“I can no longer in good conscience participate in the activities of the party or lend my support to her agenda.”
He was expelled after ignoring a disciplinary summons, according to the PDP ward executive.
Despite not announcing a new affiliation, his presence at the African Democratic Party’s inaugural meeting signals a potential shift.
