The defection took place yesterday in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State. Speaking at the event, Nkwonta, who chairs the House Committee on the South East Development Commission, urged members of the state APC to unite ahead of the 2027 general election.

“We must strengthen our structures, energise our supporters, and build bridges across communities. We must reassure our people that APC stands for development, inclusion, and progress,” Nkwonta said.

He emphasised working together honestly, respectfully, and purposefully to build a party that reflects the aspirations of every Abian.

Since joining the APC, Nkwonta said he has been communicating a message of change across his constituency and expressed confidence that Abia State has a bright future.

“With unity of purpose, dedication to service, and alignment with the national leadership of our great party, our state will take its rightful place in the transformation of the country,” he added.

Dr Kingsley Ononogbu, chairman of the Abia State APC chapter, welcomed Nkwonta, assuring him of a level playing field and describing him as a valuable asset.

Ononogbu handed Nkwonta a bunch of brooms, the symbol of the APC, emphasising that all members must work together for a “landslide victory in 2027.”
