Speaking at a news conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Minister of Solid Minerals Deji Alake said the government’s security policies were strategic and far-reaching.
The briefing, hosted by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, highlighted the administration’s multi-layered approach to combating insecurity.
Mr Alake explained that the current challenges of terrorism and banditry did not originate under President Tinubu’s watch.
“From the actions taken so far; from the plethora of actions, if such were taken ten years ago, we probably would not be where we are today,” he noted, emphasising that recent measures had already begun to yield results.
He cited the overhaul of Nigeria’s security architecture, including leadership changes in top military commands, as a key step designed to inject renewed vigour into the anti-terror operations. “All these are to reinvigorate and re-inject new enthusiasm and impetus into the fight against insecurity,” he said.
The minister stressed that the government’s actions were built on deep strategic planning. A comparative analysis over the past decade, he said, revealed “tremendous efforts” made in the last two years to stem the tide of insecurity.
Mr Alake also addressed misconceptions around the religious dimensions of attacks. “There is no deliberate targeting of any religion or persecution,” he said. “Sometimes, these terrorists attack based on economic or political motives rather than faith.”
He urged the media to act responsibly by reporting accurate information and amplifying the successes of the armed forces, rather than spreading narratives that could deepen division or fear.
