Umar announced his withdrawal in a statement he personally signed on Wednesday.
His decision followed pressure from coalition groups supporting his ambition, who advised him to step down ahead of the primaries.
The groups cited alleged irregularities in the party’s process, describing it as unclear and undemocratic.
They claimed the exercise was leaning toward imposition rather than a fair contest.
Umar’s exit narrows the race for the APC governorship ticket in Bauchi State.
