Hakeem Baba-Ahmed Urges Tinubu to Address Nigerians

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed calls on President Bola Tinubu to address Nigerians directly following Trump’s threat over alleged killings of Christians.

Former Presidential Adviser Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has called on President Bola Tinubu to personally address Nigerians regarding the recent threat of possible military action from U.S. President Donald Trump.

In a statement on Facebook on Thursday, Baba-Ahmed expressed concern over the President’s silence following Trump’s claims that Nigeria allowed the alleged killing of Christians and his warning of potential U.S. intervention.

“If President Tinubu truly has capable advisers and understands the weight of his office, he should have spoken to Nigerians by now,” Baba-Ahmed wrote. “This is not the time for ministers or aides to issue statements.

The President himself should reassure the country, clarify our position, and outline the steps his administration intends to take.”

He further cautioned against President Tinubu travelling to the U.S. to meet Trump, describing such a move as potentially damaging to Nigeria’s international image. “It would only worsen Nigeria’s image — like receiving a slap and smiling in return,” he said.

Baba-Ahmed also urged swift action to restore confidence, including appointing ambassadors, rebuilding Nigeria’s diplomatic presence, and addressing the nation directly.

Trump’s recent remarks have sparked global debate, although the Nigerian government has strongly denied any religious persecution, emphasising that the country’s security challenges affect both Christians and Muslims.
