Shock Declaration: APC Has No Anointed Candidate Ahead of 2027 Polls—Ojelabi

APC Lagos Chairman Anointed Candidates 2027 dismissed as Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi opens contest and rejects imposition ahead of primaries

The Lagos State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, has stated that the party has no anointed candidates for any elective position ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that all aspirants will compete freely for party tickets.

Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi made the declaration in a statement issued on Thursday in Lagos following the successful conduct of the APC National Convention, which produced officers across various organs of the party.

He said the conclusion of the convention has shifted the party’s focus to the selection of candidates for the upcoming elections.

The APC Lagos Chairman Anointed Candidates 2027 position was firmly rejected by Ojelabi, who emphasised that no individual has been endorsed for any office.

He explained that all positions remain open and accessible to interested party members who meet the necessary requirements.

According to him, the party will not impose candidates on its members, describing such practices as inconsistent with the principles of internal democracy.

He urged aspirants to prepare to contest in line with established rules and legal frameworks guiding the electoral process.

Ojelabi noted that candidate selection will be carried out in accordance with the timetable of the Independent National Electoral Commission and relevant provisions of the Electoral Act.

He added that the party remains committed to adhering strictly to due process in all its activities.

He disclosed that direct primaries will serve as the primary method for selecting candidates, while consensus arrangements may be considered where broadly agreed upon by stakeholders.

This approach, he said, is intended to ensure fairness while accommodating internal party dynamics where necessary.

The party chairman further assured members of a level playing field, stating that the APC remains committed to transparency and inclusivity.

He also highlighted efforts to encourage greater participation of women in the nomination process, describing it as part of the party’s broader commitment to gender equity.

Ojelabi, however, cautioned that nomination and administrative fees paid by aspirants would not be refunded, advising all prospective contestants to take note before entering the race.

He called on members to maintain discipline and mutual respect as the party awaits formal guidelines from its national leadership.

Political activity within the Lagos chapter of the APC is already gathering momentum, with aspirants positioning themselves ahead of the primaries.
