Shinkafi files APC exclusion court case challenging his removal from APC senatorial primary as Federal High Court begins hearing in Zamfara
The Federal High Court sitting in Gusau, Zamfara State, on Tuesday, June 10, 2026, began hearing a pre-election suit filed by All Progressives Congress (APC) Zamfara North Senatorial aspirant, Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, challenging what he described as his unlawful exclusion from the party’s senatorial primary election, in a developing APC exclusion court case that has drawn attention within the state’s political circle.

The suit, presided over by Justice Hassan Dikko, lists the All Progressives Congress, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura as first, second and third defendants.
Dr. Shinkafi is asking the court to nullify the senatorial primary election, arguing that his exclusion from the process undermined its legality and fairness.
The matter marks a significant legal test for internal party democracy ahead of future elections.
When the case came up for mention, proceedings could not fully commence due to unresolved issues relating to the participation of INEC, prompting the court to delay substantive hearing.
The court subsequently adjourned the matter to June 25 and directed INEC to appear in court, while also ordering all parties to exchange pleadings ahead of the next hearing date.
Counsel to the plaintiff, Bello Galadi, expressed confidence in the case, stating that the court would ensure justice is delivered based on the merits of the arguments presented.
Counsel to Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura, Jaysey Sharka, confirmed that the matter remains at the preliminary hearing stage, with further proceedings expected at the next adjourned date.
