APC chieftain Osita Okechukwu urges President Tinubu to sustain the Wike alliance ahead of 2027, warning governors who want the FCT minister isolated
Osita Okechukwu, a foundation member of the All Progressives Congress, on Sunday 13 September 2026 urged President Bola Tinubu to keep his alliance with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike standing through the 2027 race.

Osita Okechukwu said the pact helped President Bola Tinubu win in 2023 and could still add weight next year.
He was answering moves by some APC state governors to pull the president away from Nyesom Wike.
He argued that the realignment around the minister has already cut into former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s national reach, and that the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate is “truly a placeholder posing no danger.” From his reading, Nyesom Wike could send President Bola Tinubu more votes than some of the governors now trying to isolate him.
Those governors, he said, should look first at how they ran APC primaries. “Some of those who are crying wolf today should remember that the electorate has not forgotten how our great party’s gubernatorial and legislative primaries were conducted in their respective states. Where primaries were manipulated, the consequences may eventually come back to haunt the perpetrators.”
He took comfort from the calendar: three weeks between the presidential poll on 16 January 2027 and the governorship votes on 6 February 2027. “This gives the Nigerian electorate an opportunity to assess who has delivered commensurate dividends of democracy from the increased resources available to the states.”
That gap, he said, could turn 2027 into a referendum on who spent higher allocations on real gains and who did not.

The appeal is blunt politics: keep the Tinubu Wike alliance, and let voters judge the governors later.
