The official list of chairmen-elect, earlier declared by returning officers, was confirmed by the Chairman of the Borno State Independent Electoral Commission (BOSIEC), Alhaji Tahiru Shettima, at a news conference in Maiduguri.

Shettima said BOSIEC did not create any “roadblock” for political parties wishing to contest the elections, noting that only six parties participated despite several stakeholder meetings.

The participating parties included the APC, New Nigeria People’s Party, Social Democratic Party, Labour Party, and People’s Redemption Party.

“I think the commission has done its best and the election was free, fair, inclusive, and transparent,” the BOSIEC chairman said.

He added that all returning officers were selected for their integrity and intellectual capacity, drawn from academia and technocratic backgrounds.

Shettima explained that BOSIEC headquarters collected results submitted by returning officers and electoral officers, aggregated them for all 27 local government areas, and formally announced the chairmen-elect.

The commission chairman described the elections as keenly contested, urging the elected chairmen to remain focused on delivering social amenities at the grassroots level.

He highlighted the voter turnout as evidence that local government remains the level of government closest to the people and stressed the importance of active political participation in communities.
