Ali Ndume Emerges APC Consensus Candidate for Borno South

Ali Ndume APC Consensus Candidate emerges unopposed for Borno South senatorial ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections in Borno State

Former Senate Leader Ali Ndume has emerged as the All Progressives Congress consensus candidate for the Borno South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria, following an affirmation process held in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The development was confirmed after Ali Ndume was returned unopposed during the party’s primary exercise, marking a significant moment in the Ali Ndume APC Consensus Candidate race for the senatorial ticket.

His emergence came after his main rival, Abdullahi Askira, voluntarily withdrew from the contest last month following consultations with party stakeholders and political leaders within the district.

Party insiders noted that Askira’s decision to step down followed appeals from influential figures within the APC in Borno South, paving the way for Ndume’s unopposed nomination through consensus.

If elected in the 2027 general elections, Ali Ndume would be returning to the National Assembly for a fifth term, further strengthening his long standing political presence in the region.

Reacting to his emergence, Ali Ndume expressed appreciation to APC stakeholders, party delegates and supporters for the confidence reposed in him, describing the development as a call to continued service.

He also commended Abdullahi Askira for withdrawing from the race in what he described as a demonstration of loyalty and respect for party leadership and internal consensus-building.

“I want to thank our elders in the Borno South Senatorial District for their unwavering support for me. I want to reassure them that I will continue to promote their interest at all times,” Ndume said.

He further praised Askira’s decision to step aside, describing it as a reflection of unity and commitment to party harmony within the senatorial district.

Ndume also called on party stakeholders to remain united and focused ahead of the general elections, emphasising the importance of cohesion within the APC structure in Borno South.
