ADC presidential aspirants regional candidates says where Rotimi Amaechi argued that most contenders in the race were driven by regional considerations rather than national interest.
Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar are among those seeking to emerge as the ADC presidential flagbearer for the 2027 election, setting up a competitive and high-profile contest within the party.
Amaechi maintained that he remains the only aspirant within the ADC presidential race who is not influenced by regional sentiment, stressing that his ambition is rooted in national unity rather than ethnic identity.
He said all aspirants, apart from himself, could be viewed as pursuing regional interests, adding that Nigeria’s political challenges were largely the result of ethnic and religious divisions that should be avoided moving forward.
According to him, the focus of the electorate should shift away from ethnicity and religion towards economic realities, insisting that governance must be judged by practical outcomes rather than identity politics.
The former Minister of Transportation also expressed confidence that the ADC would conduct a credible primary election to determine its presidential candidate, reinforcing calls for internal democracy within the party.
