Adamawa governorship candidates sign a peace accord ahead of 2027, pledging issue-based campaigns and rejecting violence, hate speech and misinformation
Adamawa governorship candidates contesting the 2027 election signed a peace accord in Yola on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, committing to peaceful, responsible and issue-based campaigns ahead of the poll.

The agreement was signed during a peace summit organised by the ABAK Peace Foundation in collaboration with the National Peace Committee.
The candidates pledged to reject electoral violence, hate speech, misinformation and personal attacks during the campaign period.
They also agreed to focus their campaigns on their respective programmes and visions for the development of Adamawa State.
The summit brought together political stakeholders and other participants to discuss practical measures for preventing election-related violence and managing political disagreements peacefully.
Organisers said the initiative was intended to encourage political actors to compete without allowing differences over parties, candidates or policies to escalate into violence.
The Adamawa accord comes against the backdrop of preparations for the 2027 general elections, with political parties and candidates beginning to organise their campaigns across the country.
The organisers also described the state-level agreement as a continuation of the National Peace Accord signed in Abuja in August by political parties and presidential candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
The national agreement was designed to encourage political actors to conduct their campaigns peacefully and respect the electoral process.
Organisers of the Adamawa summit said the local accord was intended to translate that broader commitment into practical action at the state level.
The agreement places particular emphasis on responsible political communication, given the potential for inflammatory rhetoric and misinformation to heighten tensions during election periods.
The candidates’ commitment will now be tested during the campaign and electoral process, when competition for votes is expected to intensify across Adamawa.
For voters, the accord provides a formal statement of the candidates’ commitment to peaceful political engagement, while the effectiveness of the pledge will depend on how consistently its principles are observed throughout the election cycle.
The 2027 Adamawa governorship election is expected to form part of a wider contest in which political parties will seek to consolidate their support across the state.
