The development follows Yusuf’s resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party, ending months of speculation over his political future ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Yusuf, a founding figure in the NNPP’s 2023 Kano victory, cited governance realities and the need for stronger collaboration with the Federal Government as reasons for his defection.
He previously belonged to the APC between 2014 and 2018.
Preparations are underway for his reception by APC leaders, with national party leader Abdullahi Ganduje expected to return from London to welcome the governor in Kano.
According to a statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, Yusuf will register alongside 22 members of the Kano State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives, and the 44 local government chairmen in the state.
