Rivers Governor Fubara denies disagreement with lawmakers, pledges peace and delivers Ahoada–Omoku Road extension to boost local development

Speaking during the inauguration of the dualised extension of the Ahoada–Omoku Road, Fubara said he had repeatedly sought meetings with lawmakers, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, but that promised arrangements through state elders and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, had not yet materialised.
“I personally do not have any disagreement or any anger with my members in the National Assembly, even those here in the state. I have made every effort to meet with them, but the arrangement wasn’t for me to call them directly. Whoever is saying I refused to meet them is not telling the truth,” the governor emphasised.
Fubara further stated that his defection to the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday was motivated by the desire to foster unity and ensure effective governance in Rivers State, rather than personal ambition.
“Development cannot come when there is continuous disunity. We cannot thrive in an atmosphere of rancour,” he said.
During the road inauguration, the governor highlighted the economic and security benefits of the project, noting that it fulfilled a campaign promise made to residents of Ahoada and would enhance connectivity to Omoku.
He praised public support and assured that his administration would continue delivering tangible democratic dividends.
“The Renewed Hope Agenda is here with a vigour you cannot imagine. We are ready to drive it to every door in every local government area of Rivers State,” Fubara stated.
Despite the end of emergency rule, tensions persist as three lawmakers loyal to the governor have yet to resume sitting, and the Assembly continues to raise concerns about delayed submission of commissioner-nominee lists and the state of public schools.
In response, Fubara approved the recruitment of 1,000 teachers whose appointments had been suspended since 2023.
