ADC holds President Tinubu responsible for Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, urging reforms after US labels country a ‘nation of concern.’
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has blamed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for Nigeria’s recent designation as a ‘country of particular concern’ by former U.S. President Donald Trump, citing rising insecurity and diplomatic failures.

In a statement by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, the party said nearly 15,000 Nigerians have lost their lives to violent attacks since Tinubu assumed office in 2023. The party accused the government of neglecting its fundamental duty: protecting citizens and their property.
“We are guided by the painful reality that what is truly at stake are the thousands of human lives lost to insecurity in Nigeria irrespective of tribe, religion, or region,” Abdullahi said.
The ADC described Trump’s designation as a wake-up call, emphasizing that a nation’s dignity is measured not only by economic power but also by how it values and protects human life.
The party highlighted worsening insecurity under Tinubu, citing terror attacks, displacement of communities, and the resurgence of Boko Haram alongside other terror groups. It referenced the October 31, 2025, Kwara State attack as evidence of the government’s failure to contain violence.
“Entire communities have been sacked; worshippers slaughtered in sacred spaces; and bandits now control vast territories,” the statement said.

ADC also criticised Nigeria’s foreign policy, pointing out key ambassadorial positions that remain unfilled and what it called a personalised approach to diplomacy that neglects national interests. The party warned that Nigeria’s leadership within ECOWAS has significantly weakened under Tinubu’s watch.
