Igbo Federal Projects Demand Targets Unity, Equity

Igbo Federal Projects Demand: Groups urge Tinubu to reopen coastal ports, end economic blockade, and address infrastructure neglect

Igbo Federal Projects Demand has taken centre stage as the Igbo Unification Movement and ‘Ndi Na Asu Bia’ Socio-Cultural Organisation call on the Federal Government to address long-standing grievances of marginalisation and underdevelopment in Igbo land.

After a two-day assembly in Asaba, Delta State, the group released a communique demanding increased federal infrastructure across the South-East and the immediate reopening and dredging of key Igbo coastal ports such as Port Harcourt, Bonny, and Opobo.

The Igbo Federal Projects Demand includes appeals for equity, unity, and economic revitalisation, particularly in regions historically affected by policies stemming from post-war exclusion.

According to the communique, signed by leaders Kingsley Kainebi, Ofochi Atagana, and Cosmas Chikeobi Agada, reopening the ports would unlock development for the East and benefit regions as far as the Middle Belt and Lake Chad.

The group also urged President Bola Tinubu to lift what it described as a long-standing economic blockade on the Igbo, calling it unjust and detrimental to national growth.

While acknowledging improvements in national security, the organisations insisted that more efforts are needed to protect and integrate the Igbo-speaking population fully.

They declared full support for the creation of Anioma State as a matter of equity and justice.

Emphasising cultural and linguistic unity, the communique denounced internal and external forces that promote division, land-locking, and political fragmentation among Igbos.

The Igbo Federal Projects Demand reflects broader frustration with decades of federal neglect and a renewed push for regional empowerment through strategic infrastructure, inclusive governance, and economic justice.
