Kehinde Akinde Dumps PDP in a move that underscores the worsening internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), particularly in Ogun State.

Akinde, a former chairmanship candidate in Yewa North Local Government during the 2021 council elections, formally announced his resignation from the party in a statement on Wednesday.
Describing the PDP as a “shadow of itself,” Akinde expressed disillusionment with the party’s current state at all levels — national, state, and local government.
He cited manipulative divisions, internal wrangling, and continued injustices against committed members as the key reasons behind his departure.
“The one-time noble party I cherished so much has become a shadow of itself… from manipulative divisions to injustices at the grassroots,” he said.
Akinde clarified that the decision to quit was not made in haste. According to him, it followed “critical analysis” and “wide consultation” with his loyal supporters both locally and in the diaspora.
Though he did not reveal his next political destination, Akinde hinted that any future alignment would be based on “God’s directive” and guided by his “philosophical value of good governance.”
His resignation adds to a growing list of prominent PDP members exiting the party in Ogun State.
In July, former party chairman Dr. Sikirulahi Ogundele and deputy governorship candidate Abdulkabir Akinlade also defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside hundreds of supporters.
The string of defections continues to raise questions about the PDP’s cohesion and future viability in the state, as internal leadership struggles and accusations of betrayal rattle the opposition party.

Akinde’s departure is seen as yet another blow to the party’s image, especially in Yewa North, a critical zone in the state’s political calculus.
