Governor Dapo Abiodun described the opposition party as a sinking ship, welcoming the new members and praising their decision as a bold return to progressive leadership.
Among the defectors are 2023 PDP deputy governorship candidate Adekunle Akinlade (Triple A), former PDP state chairman Sikirulai Ogundele, and PDP Assembly member Luqmon Atobatele.
They were joined by former lawmaker Idowu Olowofuja, ex-local government commission chair Rotimi Rahaman, Mojeed Ekelojumati, and thousands of their loyal supporters.
Governor Abiodun didn’t mince words:
“PDP nationwide has become an empty shell. They’re like Internally Displaced Persons seeking political shelter.”
He assured the defectors of full integration into the APC, promising them dignity, rights, and political relevance.
Akinlade emphasized that this was not just a defection but a movement:
“We left no one behind. We believe in Governor Abiodun’s leadership.”
Ogundele added that after witnessing the developmental strides in Ogun State under the APC, their decision was inevitable.
