Tinubu’s Support for Governors Unprecedented, Says Kaduna’s Governor Uba Sani

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani says Tinubu’s support for governors is unmatched in Nigeria’s history, making opposition from sub-national leaders unlikely

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has declared that Tinubu’s Support for Governors is unparalleled in Nigeria’s democratic history, noting that no past president has extended such robust backing to state leaders.

He made the remark during the opening of a two-day interactive citizens’ engagement forum hosted by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF) in Kaduna.

Sani’s assertion comes amidst growing endorsements for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from governors across the federation, including those in opposition parties.

The Kaduna governor said Tinubu’s model of governance has made it virtually impossible for governors to challenge his authority.

“No president in Nigeria’s history has supported governors and sub-national governments the way President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently doing. As a result, it is unlikely that any governor in Nigeria would go against the president,” Sani stated to a packed hall at Arewa House.

He praised the President’s direct involvement in sub-national affairs and the flexibility he has shown in responding to the states’ unique challenges.

Sani pointed out that the federal government’s unprecedented engagement with non-state actors in Northern Nigeria marks a shift in Nigeria’s approach to national unity, security, and development.

“For the first time in Nigeria’s political history, the federal government is engaging non-state actors in the North to address longstanding security and developmental challenges. This unprecedented approach reflects a shift in how national issues are being addressed,” he said.

The forum, themed “Assessing Electoral Promises: Fostering Government-Citizen Engagement for National Unity,” brought together top officials, civil society advocates, and policymakers.

No president in Nigeria’s history has supported governors and sub-national governments the way President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently doing.

The gathering aimed to evaluate the federal government’s performance against its campaign promises and to strengthen dialogue between citizens and government institutions.

President Tinubu, who was represented at the event by Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, reiterated the administration’s commitment to transparency and inclusion.

The Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, organisers of the forum, is a non-political and non-religious body established in 2009 to honour the legacy of the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello.

It promotes leadership excellence and regional development through public discourse and institutional capacity-building.

According to Sani, the combination of grassroots consultation and federal-state collaboration being championed under Tinubu’s leadership marks a new era in governance.

He emphasised that such unity is essential for national progress.

Observers note that the wave of support from governors underscores Tinubu’s increasing consolidation of political goodwill, less than two years into his term.

Analysts suggest this might give the president a significant advantage heading into mid-term policy battles and future elections.

A civic participant at the forum, Amina Bello, said the president’s approach to engagement deserves more national attention.

“What Governor Sani said is correct—there’s a noticeable difference in how the federal government is treating states under Tinubu. That’s something we should build on, not politicise,” she said.

In the closing remarks, the Foundation reiterated the need for continuous assessment of political promises and urged governors to build on the momentum of national unity and dialogue.
