PDP Condemns ADC Coalition Plan, Vows Stronger 2027 Comeback

The PDP response to ADC coalition highlights internal unity efforts and warns defectors that the new alliance won’t gain traction ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections

The PDP response to ADC coalition has been firm and strategic, with its top leaders declaring the alliance unviable ahead of the 2027 elections.

At a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, the Board of Trustees insisted that any opposition coalition not led by PDP is bound to collapse.

Senator Ahmed Makarfi, speaking on behalf of the BoT, said, “What we are against is a coalition that cannot work.

PDP is the leading opposition party. Any such effort must be under our leadership.”

The party claims the African Democratic Congress lacks the structure and legitimacy needed for success.

Makarfi said most defectors would return once PDP finalises its national convention.

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State questioned the wisdom behind abandoning the PDP.

“How is this smart in thought or strategy?” he asked, calling defectors to return rather than weaken the party’s image.

He also drew a line on dual loyalty: “You cannot belong to two places. You cannot be a man and a woman at the same time.”

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki added, “Anger does not solve problems in leadership,” stressing that leadership should be driven by vision, not frustration.

He called for unity within the PDP, warning that history would judge them harshly if the party failed under their watch.

Tanimu Turaki criticised the preferential treatment often given to returnees: “It’s baffling that those who left come back and are prioritised over loyal members who stayed.”
