APC NWC leadership uncertainty deepens as NEC meeting looms. Presidency’s silence fuels tension over future of Ganduje’s replacement and party direction
There was rising tension on Tuesday at the All Progressives Congress national secretariat in Abuja as the party prepared for its crucial NEC meeting scheduled for Thursday, July 24.

Discussions about the future of the National Working Committee remained unresolved after hours of deliberation.
Several national officers and state chairmen met throughout the day without reaching any agreement on the NWC’s fate. A key source revealed that the lack of direction from President Bola Tinubu has left party leaders anxious.
According to the source, “Nobody understands the presidency’s thinking on who might replace Ganduje. That’s part of what’s creating this climate of uncertainty.”
The presidency is reportedly considering multiple scenarios, including dissolving the NWC and appointing a caretaker committee to steer the party until the 2026 convention.
A current NWC member voiced frustration: “The party is now structured in such a way that no national officer knows what the future holds for him or her.
The situation is a confirmation that Mr. President has conquered the party.”
He added that even as preparations for Thursday’s NEC meeting intensify, members remain unclear about what to expect.
“The direction of the party lies entirely with the presidency now,” he said.
Another insider claimed the mood around the national secretariat is more tense than ever before.
“I have never seen a build-up like this. There’s no buzz, no alignment, just silence. Everybody is waiting for the president.”
