Delta State Flyover Projects Defended as Vital by Oborevwori Amid Criticism

Governor Oborevwori defends Delta State flyover projects in Warri and Effurun as vital for growth, responding to APC criticism with firm justification

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has defended the Delta State flyover projects currently underway in Warri and Effurun, describing them as essential infrastructure that will drive long-term development across the region.

Responding to criticism from All Progressives Congress chieftain Chief Wilson Omene, the governor said the projects were not cosmetic but strategic investments aimed at easing traffic and boosting the local economy.

Omene had described the projects as “ill-informed and misleading” during a recent interview, questioning their relevance and calling for investment in industrial development in Delta Central instead.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Oborevwori stated, “The flyovers, road expansions and sleepway interchange are not cosmetic.

They are long-term investments in urban mobility, ease of doing business, and economic growth.”

He emphasised the importance of Warri and Effurun as commercial gateways that link ports, industries and rural communities.

“These are gateway cities. The projects are unlocking commercial potential and creating an enabling environment for further private-sector participation. Perhaps, Chief Wilson Omene may have to check the meaning of enabling business environment,” the governor said.

According to the governor, the Warri-Effurun corridor serves a fast-growing population and is vital to Delta State’s economy.

He said that critics who fail to understand the significance of the flyover projects are out of touch with modern urban planning.

Oborevwori also addressed Omene’s argument that the funds should have been used to develop industries in Delta Central.

He dismissed it as narrow-minded and divisive. “Delta State is bigger than any single senatorial district. The M.O.R.E agenda—Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security—is being implemented equitably across Delta North, Delta Central, and Delta South,” the statement said.

The governor’s recent political realignment with the APC also drew comment. Ahon clarified that the move was strategic and not for personal gain.

“Governor Oborevwori’s alignment with the APC was not for personal benefit but to synergise with the Federal Government in delivering more dividends of democracy to Deltans,” he said.

He accused Omene of acting on behalf of political interests threatened by the governor’s recent decisions.

“Chief Wilson Omene is merely acting out a script written by those who view the governor’s move as a threat to their political interests,” the statement added.

Ahon urged critics to embrace fact-based, constructive engagement and reaffirmed the administration’s focus on inclusive growth.

“Constructive criticism is welcome, but it must be rooted in facts and guided by a sincere desire to move Delta State forward,” he concluded.
