Tinubu Offers Nigerian Youths Hope Ahead of 2027 Poll

Tinubu youth appeal puts jobs, education and opportunities at the centre of his 2027 re-election message to young Nigerians in Rivers State

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerian youths to take an active interest in the country’s political future, declaring that the 2027 general election is more about their aspirations than his personal ambition, during an All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Saturday, November 7, 2026.

The President said the forthcoming election would have lasting consequences for younger Nigerians, particularly in areas of employment, education, economic opportunities and the country’s overall development.

Addressing the gathering at the campaign rally, Tinubu maintained that he had already achieved personal milestones in life and was now more concerned about building a country that future generations could be proud to inherit.

“To the youth of Nigeria, this election is about you; it’s not on me. Your future depends on this election,” the President declared.

Tinubu explained that the significance of the 2027 election should not be measured by his age or personal political ambitions but by the opportunities available to young Nigerians.

According to him, employment, accessible education and a more promising economic environment should remain central to discussions about the country’s future.

He also expressed concern about the number of young Nigerians who consider travelling abroad necessary to secure better living conditions, arguing that the country should provide opportunities that allow its citizens to build successful lives at home.

The President’s remarks formed part of his broader campaign message in Rivers State, where he sought support for a second term in office.

He encouraged young Nigerians to participate in the electoral process, warning against staying away from polling stations and subsequently expressing dissatisfaction with political outcomes.

Tinubu urged eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and exercise their constitutional right to vote, stressing that political participation was important in determining the country’s direction.

His comments came during a rally that also featured Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, whose political disagreement had previously generated considerable tension in the state.

The President used the gathering to commend Fubara for embracing reconciliation and maintaining political stability following his intervention in the dispute with Wike.

The youth-focused message also reflects an issue Tinubu has repeatedly highlighted since the beginning of his administration in May 2023.

In previous engagements, the President promised to expand opportunities for young Nigerians through education financing, technical training, entrepreneurship and greater participation in governance.

Among the initiatives introduced by his administration is the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), established to provide financial assistance to eligible students in public tertiary institutions.

The government has also promoted the Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme, which seeks to develop digital and technical skills among Nigerians, alongside the Credit Corporation of Nigeria, designed to improve access to consumer and business credit.

During an October 19, 2026 engagement with young supporters at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu again highlighted these initiatives as part of his administration’s youth development agenda.

He also praised young political supporters for their involvement in grassroots mobilisation and encouraged greater youth participation in governance.

However, the President’s renewed appeal comes against the background of continuing concerns about unemployment, the cost of living, educational affordability and the difficulty many young Nigerians face in securing sustainable livelihoods.

While government programmes have been introduced to address some of these challenges, the extent to which they have improved opportunities for young people remains an important consideration as the country approaches another election cycle.

For many young Nigerians, the central issues are not simply campaign promises but measurable improvements in employment prospects, access to quality education, affordable living conditions and economic stability.

Tinubu’s statement therefore places the aspirations of younger voters at the centre of his 2027 re-election message, while inviting them to take responsibility for participating in the democratic process.

With the next general election approaching, the President’s challenge to Nigerian youths is clear: their participation should extend beyond public discussions and social media reactions to the ballot box, where voters will have the opportunity to express their choices about the country’s future.
