Ahmad Rufai Sani Yerima, born July 22, 1960, is a highly influential figure in Zamfara State politics.
He served as the first elected Governor of Zamfara State from 1999 to 2007, making headlines as the first Nigerian state governor to implement a full Sharia legal system in his state in 2000.
After his gubernatorial tenure, Yerima transitioned to the National Assembly, serving as a Senator representing Zamfara West constituency from 2007 to 2019.
During his time in the Senate, he held positions such as Deputy Minority Leader and Minority Whip.
Yerima is often regarded as a political godfather in Zamfara, having mentored several subsequent political leaders in the state, including his successors as governor.
