NDC’s Theo Abu Agada predicts a historic political upset in 2027 as Peter Obi clarifies the role of support groups backing his presidential bid
The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, said on Friday, September 25, 2026, that its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, would become Nigeria’s next president and described the 2027 election as a potential turning point in the country’s political history.

The party’s Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, Theo Abu Agada, made the prediction while responding to Obi’s clarification on the relationship between the NDC and support groups backing his presidential campaign.
Agada said Nigerians would witness what he described as the biggest political upset in the country’s modern history if Obi wins the 2027 presidential election.
“A big thank you to my presidential candidate, His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi, the next President of Nigeria, by the special grace of God and the votes of the Nigerian people, for this timely clarification,” Agada wrote on X.
“We are together on this project, and Nigerians are going to witness the biggest political upset in our modern history. Be there and be part of history.”
Agada’s comments were made in response to Obi’s position that groups such as the OK Movement, Obidient Movement and Kwankwasiyya should operate as support organisations rather than as alternative political structures.
Obi said the NDC was the political party to which his political supporters belonged and referred to the position of the party’s National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson.
“NDC is the political party we all belong to and agree with the position of the National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson,” Obi said.
He added that support groups should concentrate on backing the party rather than performing functions reserved for the political organisation.
“OK Movement, Obidient Movement, Kwankwasiyya and other supporting groups are supporting groups. They must play their role in supporting the party; they should not play the role of the party,” Obi said.
The clarification comes as political organisations prepare for the 2027 presidential election and seek to establish clearer structures ahead of the campaign period.
Obi’s comments also underline the distinction between a registered political party and informal or affiliated support groups.
While support movements can mobilise voters and promote candidates, the formal organisation of an election campaign ultimately operates within the structures recognised under Nigeria’s electoral framework.
Agada’s prediction that Obi will become president is the NDC representative’s political assessment and does not establish an electoral outcome.
The 2027 presidential contest remains subject to the choices of Nigerian voters, the participation of candidates and the eventual results declared through the electoral process.
For the NDC, however, the latest comments signal confidence in Obi’s candidacy and the party’s expectation that support from the various grassroots movements can be channelled through a unified political structure.

The party’s challenge will be to translate that support into an organised campaign and electoral votes across Nigeria as the 2027 contest approaches.
