INEC distributes sensitive materials for the Gombe by-election as 495,851 registered voters prepare to vote on Saturday, 19 September 2026
The Independent National Electoral Commission Resident Electoral Commissioner in Gombe State, Alhaji Umar Muktar Gajiram, said in Gombe, Nigeria, on Friday, 18 September 2026, that INEC had distributed sensitive electoral materials for Saturday’s by-election in the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency.

The materials were handed out at the Central Bank of Nigeria premises in Gombe in the presence of party agents, members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, security personnel, CBN officials and journalists.
The by-election is scheduled for Saturday, 19 September 2026. INEC said 495,851 registered voters are expected to take part across the three local government areas of the constituency.
Alhaji Umar Muktar Gajiram said the materials had gone to the local government areas for onward movement to polling units. “The sensitive materials have been distributed to the respective local government areas. From there, they will be deployed to the various polling units ahead of tomorrow’s election,” he said. “We have ensured that the process is done in the presence of all the relevant stakeholders, including political party agents, security agencies and other members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security.”
He said endorsements and signatures on the materials were part of authentication, to show that only items certified by INEC would be used.
“The endorsement and signatures by the commission are part of the authentication process. They establish that these are the materials approved and certified by INEC for this election,” he said.
Alhaji Umar Muktar Gajiram asked parties, candidates and supporters to keep to a Peace Accord signed at the Gombe State Police Command. “I want to appeal to all political parties, candidates and their supporters to abide by the Peace Accord they signed. We expect everyone to maintain peace and ensure that the election is conducted in an orderly, peaceful and credible manner,” he said. “The responsibility for a peaceful election does not rest on INEC alone; it is a collective responsibility.”

The poll follows a vacancy in the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency.
