Adebayo urges youths to own 2027 polling units

Adebayo youths 2027 appeal in Abuja as SDP candidate Adewole Adebayo tells young Nigerians to take charge of streets and polling units before 16 January

Prince Adewole Adebayo, presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, told the Confederation of African Youths in Abuja on Thursday 17 September 2026 that Nigerian young people should take charge of their neighbourhoods, streets and polling units before the 16 January 2027 presidential election.

Prince Adewole Adebayo said a change of government would not come from vocabulary or certificates alone.

Prince Adewole Adebayo argued that politics in Nigeria is decided on the ground and that young voters must be more assertive if they want a different result next January.

The figure he used was precise. Nigeria has 166,874 polling units. Prince Adewole Adebayo said command of English means little if it cannot persuade a neighbour how to vote.

“Politics is done in the neighborhoods. One hundred and sixty-six thousand eight hundred and seventy-four polling units. Any amount of command of English that you have that does not convince your neighbor about how they are going to vote,” Prince Adewole Adebayo said.

The appeal was a call to occupy ordinary space, not a seminar. “So we must go back to the streets and own it,” Prince Adewole Adebayo said. Prince Adewole Adebayo blamed “insincerity of purpose” for the failure of an earlier generation to reach what he called the Promised Land. “Politics is not a game of the mouth. It’s a game of the heart. Because the burden of politics is not easy.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed the presidential and House of Assembly elections for 16 January 2027.

Prince Adewole Adebayo is seeking the presidency on the Social Democratic Party ticket. The Abuja meeting therefore doubled as a campaign pitch and a lecture on organisation.

Balance requires that reading. Opposition candidates often ask young Nigerians to “take control” of elections. Doing so legally means voter registration, party work, polling agent duty and turnout, not extra-legal capture of the street. Prince Adewole Adebayo did not set out a detailed machine for those 166,874 units. Prince Adewole Adebayo did say a better country was possible if young people “take the bull by the horns” on election day.

The timing sits in a crowded 2027 field. Other opposition voices have spoken of national coalitions. Lagos politicians have begun local language campaigns.

The presidency has already attacked rival messaging. Prince Adewole Adebayo’s distinction is the polling-unit arithmetic.

Eloquence, on this telling, is worthless without the neighbour at the next compound and the agent at the next booth.

Whether Adebayo youths 2027 organising follows the speech is another matter. Speeches in Abuja are cheap.

Owning a street is not. Prince Adewole Adebayo has named the terrain. The test is whether young supporters treat 166,874 polling units as work rather than a slogan.
