Kano bandit attack in Rogo leaves one resident dead and an APC chairman allegedly abducted, following deadly assaults in nearby communities
Suspected bandits reportedly attacked Beli village in Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State early Tuesday, killing a young resident and abducting Alhaji Audu Fanka Salisu Yahaya, the local All Progressives Congress, APC, chairman, in the latest of three reported attacks across neighbouring communities.

The attackers were said to have entered the community at about 1am, firing sporadically before heading towards Yahaya’s residence.
A source familiar with the incident told local media that the gunmen forced their way into the chairman’s house, brought him outside and took him away.
A young man, reportedly aged below 25, was also shot during the attack and died at the scene, while other residents were said to have sustained gunshot injuries.
“They came in, firing sporadically, and went straight to the chairman’s house. They broke down the door, brought him out and took him away,” the source said.
The alleged abduction of Yahaya has heightened concern because he is reportedly a close associate of Jibril Ismail Falgore, Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly and a native of Rogo Local Government Area.
As of Tuesday morning, there was no official confirmation from the Kano State Police Command concerning the reported Beli attack or the whereabouts of Yahaya.
The incident follows two other violent attacks reported in parts of Kano over the preceding days, creating growing anxiety among residents in communities already vulnerable to armed incursions.
On Sunday, gunmen reportedly attacked Chiromawa in Garun Malam Local Government Area, killing three people and abducting Alhaji Yusuf Nadabo Chiromawa, the Sarkin Noman Jihar Kano.
Nadabo was later rescued and returned to his family unharmed, according to the Kano State Police Command. Police said security personnel had launched operations to track those responsible for the attack.
Another attack was reported in Rantan community in Bebeji Local Government Area on Sunday night.
Unlike the Beli incident, the political leader targeted in Rantan was reportedly killed.
Garba Buba, the APC chairman of Rantan Ward, and another resident, Sulaiman Zunduma, were killed after suspected kidnappers invaded the community and opened fire.
Buba was reportedly shot in his house and later died in hospital, while Zunduma died at the scene. Another resident was also reportedly injured.
The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the Rantan killings and said an investigation was under way.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori said security personnel, including anti-kidnapping officers, had been deployed to pursue the attackers and prevent further violence.
The sequence of attacks has placed communities in parts of Kano North under renewed pressure, particularly areas close to the borders with Katsina and Zamfara states, where armed groups have operated with increasing confidence.
For residents, the concern is no longer limited to isolated incidents.
The reported attacks in Chiromawa, Rantan and now Beli have occurred within days of one another, reinforcing fears that criminal groups may be exploiting gaps in security coverage across rural communities.
The targeting of political figures has added another troubling dimension.
Yahaya’s reported abduction comes only hours after the killing of Buba, another APC ward chairman in the same wider region.
Although the circumstances of the two incidents differ, the attacks demonstrate the vulnerability of local political leaders who remain deeply connected to their communities.
The incidents also come as political activity begins to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
For families in affected communities, however, the political calendar is secondary to the immediate struggle for safety.
Residents have reportedly used social media to raise alarms and appeal to security agencies for urgent intervention.
The latest Beli incident remains subject to official confirmation, particularly regarding the identity of the attackers, the number of casualties and the condition and whereabouts of the abducted APC chairman.
Security agencies will now face pressure to establish whether the three recent attacks are connected and to prevent further violence from spreading across neighbouring local government areas.
The contrast between the two political figures affected by the latest violence is stark.
Garba Buba was reportedly killed in Rantan, while Audu Fanka Salisu Yahaya is feared to have been taken alive from his home in Beli.
Together, the incidents underscore the grim security challenge facing rural communities in parts of Kano, where residents increasingly fear that the night can bring armed men, gunfire and abductions without warning.

Until Yahaya is located and the perpetrators are brought to justice, the latest attack is likely to deepen an already palpable sense of insecurity across the affected communities.
