Aisha Yesufu election vigilance call urges Nigerians to monitor vote counting and result sheets through every stage of the 2027 collation process
Nigerian political activist Aisha Yesufu on Thursday, August 27, 2026, urged voters across Nigeria to maintain close watch over vote counting and result sheets from polling units through ward, local government and state collation centres to the final collation in Abuja.

Yesufu made the appeal in a post on her X account, arguing that Nigerians should not rely solely on technology deployed by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to protect the integrity of election results.
“The technology of INEC cannot be trusted! We will consider everything manual and analogue,” Yesufu said.
She urged voters to remain present throughout the counting process and pay careful attention as results are recorded at polling units.
“We must watch eagle eyed the counting of our votes on the Election Day. Watch like hawks as they write the results,” she added.
Yesufu’s intervention comes as political parties, aspirants and civic actors intensify preparations for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
Her central argument is that electoral technology should complement, rather than replace, direct citizen oversight of the voting and collation process.
The activist specifically called on voters to track the movement of result sheets after counting at polling units.
“Follow our result sheets from polling unit to ward, LG, State collation centres and finally to Abuja,” she said.
She further argued that election officials and result sheets should remain within the view of voters and their representatives throughout the various stages of collation.
“In all of these no single official or result sheets must be out of our sights,” Yesufu said.
Her remarks reflect a long-running debate in Nigeria over the reliability of electoral technology, the transparency of result management and the ability of citizens and political parties to independently verify declared results.
INEC has introduced several technological measures in recent electoral cycles, including the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, and the INEC Result Viewing Portal, IReV.
The commission has maintained that such tools are designed to strengthen electoral transparency, although technical difficulties and disputes over result transmission have continued to attract scrutiny.
Yesufu’s proposed approach places particular emphasis on the physical chain of custody of election results, from the polling unit where votes are counted to the various collation centres.
She called for voters to remain vigilant regardless of their location, stressing that citizen oversight should extend across Nigeria.
“From the creeks to the deserts we will follow,” she said.
Yesufu ultimately urged Nigerians to converge on the national collation point if necessary to ensure that declared results accurately reflect votes cast at polling units.
“At the end we will all gather in Abuja and ensure that what the people voted is what is announced,” she said.
The call adds a strong civic participation dimension to preparations for the 2027 elections, shifting attention from voting alone to the often less visible stages where results are collated and declared.

For Yesufu, sustained public scrutiny of that process is essential to preserving confidence in Nigeria’s electoral system.
