Akpabio Urges Oyebamiji to Transform Osun With State Funds

Akpabio urges APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji to use Osun’s resources wisely and improve infrastructure if elected governor on Saturday

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said Osun State should be performing better because of the revenue it receives from the Federal Government, urging All Progressives Congress governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji to use the state’s resources responsibly if elected on Saturday.

Akpabio made the remarks in Osogbo, the state capital, while campaigning for Oyebamiji ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

The Senate President said the state’s financial resources should translate into visible improvements in infrastructure and other areas of public development.

He specifically criticised the condition of the road linking Ibadan and Osogbo, pointing to potholes along the route as an example of infrastructure challenges facing the state.

“No state government is borrowing money for projects, enough money is coming to the state and Osun should be better than what I have seen. On the road between Ibadan and here, even the potholes are not fixed,” Akpabio said.

He urged Oyebamiji, whom he referred to as “AMBO”, to begin work immediately if he wins the election and is sworn into office.

“Once you are elected on Saturday and sworn in, you must immediately begin the progressive movement, you must transform Osun State,” he said.

Akpabio also called on the APC candidate to demonstrate that political leadership should be measured by tangible improvements in people’s lives rather than online activity.

“You must show the people that development is part and parcel of politics, that what they need is the dividends of democracy and not social media,” he said.

The Senate President further urged Oyebamiji to ensure that public funds are used for the benefit of Osun residents.

“May God guide you as you use Osun money for Osun people, as you transform the infrastructure, as you join us at the centre to ensure that Nigeria is transformed,” Akpabio said.

His comments came as political parties intensified their final efforts to win support ahead of Saturday’s election.

Oyebamiji is challenging incumbent governor Ademola Adeleke and other candidates in a contest that has attracted significant national attention.

The election will also take place amid heightened security preparations, with the police deploying more than 15,000 personnel and 30 Commissioners of Police across the state.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has said it is prepared to conduct a free, fair and credible election, while more than 1.9 million registered voters have collected their Permanent Voter Cards.

Akpabio’s appeal places public spending and infrastructure development at the centre of the APC’s argument for a change in leadership, while the election will ultimately leave Osun voters to decide which candidate they believe can best deliver on those promises.
