Bindow meets Tinubu after leaving the ADC, with the former Adamawa governor’s political next step still unclear following his Abuja visit

The meeting, which reportedly took place late on Monday, came just over a week after Bindow’s departure from the opposition party. Details of the discussion have not been made public.
Bindow’s visit has nevertheless attracted political attention because of the timing of his ADC resignation and his previous association with the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party under which he governed Adamawa State from 2015 to 2019.
Bindow formally resigned from the ADC effective July 15, although his resignation letter was received by the party’s ward leadership on July 31. He communicated the decision in a letter addressed to the ADC Ward Chairman in Lokuwa Ward, Mubi North Local Government Area.
In the letter, Bindow said his decision followed careful consideration of his political convictions, aspirations and commitment to public service.
He also referred to changing political circumstances as part of the reason for choosing a new political path.
“It is time to move, so I have moved,” Bindow said in the resignation letter.
The former governor did not announce a new political affiliation when he left the ADC, leaving his next move open to speculation.
His meeting with Tinubu has now added another layer to that uncertainty.
Bindow previously belonged to the APC and won the Adamawa governorship election in 2015 on the party’s platform. He served as governor until 2019, when he lost his bid for a second term.
He subsequently became involved with the ADC as the opposition party sought to strengthen its presence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Before leaving the ADC, Bindow had also withdrawn from the party’s governorship contest in Adamawa following consultations and reflection over his political future.
At the time, he maintained that he remained committed to the ADC and its objectives, making his eventual resignation a notable change in direction.
The former governor’s political movements had already attracted attention in June, when Vice President Kashim Shettima met him in Abuja.
Following that meeting, Shettima posted that he had held what he described as fruitful discussions with Bindow on politics, security, governance and other issues of common interest. The Vice President also wrote, “BINDOW IS COMING!”
The message fuelled speculation that Bindow could eventually return to the APC, although no formal announcement followed at the time.
The latest meeting with Tinubu is therefore likely to intensify those questions.
Neither Bindow nor the Presidency has publicly disclosed what was discussed during Monday night’s meeting, and there has been no formal confirmation that the former governor is preparing to rejoin the APC.
For now, the significance of the visit lies largely in its timing.
Bindow has left a political party that has positioned itself as part of the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections and has subsequently met the country’s president, who is also the leader of the APC.
That sequence is likely to generate considerable political interest in Adamawa, where Bindow remains an influential figure because of his previous tenure as governor.
His political experience could also make his next decision relevant to the wider contest ahead of 2027, particularly as major parties and emerging opposition coalitions begin positioning themselves well before the general election.
The former governor, however, has yet to publicly state where his political future lies.
The Tinubu meeting should therefore be viewed as an important development rather than confirmation of a new party affiliation.

For the moment, Bindow’s next political step remains unclear. What is certain is that his departure from the ADC has been followed quickly by high-level engagement at the Presidential Villa, ensuring that attention will remain firmly on his next move.
