Mudashiru Obasa Says He Has No Link to Lagos APC Protesters

Mudashiru Obasa denies Obasa APC protest claims, rejecting allegations linking him to APC primary election protests in Lagos State

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa has firmly denied any involvement in recent protests staged by aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the party’s primary elections in the state, rejecting what he described as misleading allegations in the ongoing Obasa APC protest claims controversy.

Obasa, in a statement made available to journalists, urged those behind the protests not to drag his name into the political dispute, stressing that he had no connection to the demonstrations or their organisation.

The Speaker stated that suggestions linking him to the protests were “foolhardy, malicious, misleading, and baseless”, insisting that there was no justification for anyone to assume he was involved in mobilising protesters from different local government areas across Lagos State.

He questioned the logic behind the allegations, noting that he was not a candidate in the disputed primaries and therefore had no reason to finance or orchestrate protests related to their outcome.

Obasa further emphasised that he had no involvement in any form of political mobilisation connected to the demonstrations, describing the claims as an attempt to misrepresent his role within the party.

The development comes after groups of APC members from local government areas including Badagry, Mushin, Amuwo-Odofin, Eti-Osa, Somolu, Ajeromi, and Oshodi staged a protest at the party’s state secretariat, accusing party leaders of manipulating the outcome of recent primary elections.

Following the protest, rumours circulated alleging that the Speaker was among those sponsoring the demonstrations, prompting his swift and forceful rebuttal.

Obasa’s response adds a new dimension to the ongoing tensions within the Lagos APC following the contentious primaries, which have continued to generate internal disagreements and public protests.

The Speaker maintained that his focus remains on legislative responsibilities, urging party members to channel grievances through appropriate party mechanisms rather than public demonstrations.
