Kwankwasiyya Denies Kwankwaso Threat to Quit NDC Party

Kwankwasiyya Movement denies reports that Rabiu Kwankwaso threatened to quit the NDC over candidate replacement claims

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has dismissed reports suggesting that its leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, threatened to leave the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) over alleged replacement of candidates ahead of party elections.

The clarification was contained in a statement issued by the group’s spokesman, Habibu Mohammed, who described the claims as baseless and misleading.

According to the statement, Rabiu Kwankwaso did not issue any threat to quit the party, nor did he express dissatisfaction over the selection or substitution of candidates.

“Kwankwaso never threatened to leave the NDC. Neither the Kwankwasiyya Movement nor its leader is complaining,” Mohammed said.

The denial follows reports alleging that the movement was planning to exit the party in protest over the replacement of candidates earlier nominated by its bloc.

It was further claimed that the alleged changes breached an internal power-sharing arrangement within the party.

However, the Kwankwasiyya Movement insisted that the speculation had no factual basis.

Mohammed explained that the party’s primaries were conducted on 29 May in line with the Electoral Act and Independent National Electoral Commission guidelines, with winners affirmed on the same day.

He added that stakeholders of the NDC had earlier adopted a consensus arrangement where necessary and jointly submitted agreed candidates without internal disputes.

The spokesman also noted that Kwankwaso had not communicated any grievance to the movement regarding the party’s actions.

The group urged the public to disregard the rumours, insisting that both the movement and its leader remain committed to the party’s processes and structures.
