APC Aspirant Drags Party to Court Over Disputed Primary in Taraba

APC aspirant Leah Olusuyi has filed a court case challenging the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing primary election outcome, alleging irregularities

An All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant for the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, Leah Olusuyi, has filed a legal challenge at the Federal High Court in Jalingo, Taraba State, contesting the outcome of the party’s primary election held on May 16, 2026.

The disputed primary produced Sadiq Tafida as the APC candidate for the 2027 general election, but Olusuyi is seeking judicial intervention to overturn the result, alleging that no lawful primary election was conducted.

In court documents submitted through her counsel, P.D. Pius, the plaintiff argued that the exercise failed to meet the required legal and procedural standards for a valid party primary.

She is asking the court to nullify the process, insisting that the nomination of Tafida did not reflect a legitimate internal party election.

Although the case is yet to be assigned a hearing date, filings show it was submitted within the 14-day statutory window allowed under the Electoral Act for pre-election disputes, preserving the applicant’s right to challenge the outcome.

The development adds to a growing pattern of post-primary disputes within the All Progressives Congress, where dissatisfied aspirants frequently approach the courts to contest nomination outcomes.

Political observers note that such cases reflect a broader trend in Nigeria’s electoral process, where party primaries often become contentious battlegrounds for political control and candidacy validation.

The Federal High Court in Jalingo is expected to commence proceedings once the case is formally assigned to a judge.
